Because of the difficulties we experienced during the action phase, our groups were tasked with coming up with a concept that we would carry out if given the chance. My group proposed organizing an art exhibition where we’d collaborate with the children at the Pwani Youth Network, teaching them how to make origami using recycled scrap paper. For the final demonstration phase, we created and presented a slideshow explaining our concept and the reasoning behind it. I felt a bit let down that we couldn’t bring our plan to life, especially since I thought it was a creative and meaningful idea that had the potential to be both enjoyable and educational. Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control prevented us from fully realizing the project.
Still, I found the overall experience valuable. Despite the weather-related setbacks, the project encouraged me to think more critically about sustainable approaches to real-world problems. It also gave me insight into the impactful work the Pwani Youth Center does for the youth in Mikindani.
